Empress is a resurrected remake of a Plague song. The Plague, fronted by Margot Day was a NYC ‘80’s band considered a legend by some. Empress has a timeless vibe, where the past meets the present. Margot Day’s voice entwines with her daughter Julifer Day’s honeyed smokey vocals.
Day says “Late at night I was in upstate NY (where rip van winkle went to sleep) walking alone thru the darkeyed night deep in the woods with the large, towering trees and I heard this ethereal voice singing. This mysterious voice was the inspiration for The Plague band's vision: a combination of dark and light, both eerie and beatific, utterly goth. Empress was the first Plague song”.

Wisconsin based dark synth band with a new driving political statement full of spiraling hooks and razor edge tapestry. The perfect mix of this album is so economical it makes the motion and pace feel like a UFO that darts and accelerates in a way modern technology has not produced. The vocal duties bouncing between Eric and Jill feels like a conversation of perfect syncopation. This album came out in Nov 2022 and every time I hear it holds a familiarity and nostalgia that defies logic.

It's uncanny just how good Actors is at emulating that Post-Punk synth sound from my younger days. Each listen just gets better and better. I feel slightly ashamed for not having heard this album until a few short days ago.
